Uniqlo Ginza

Japanese casual clothing store Uniqlo has just open a new store in Ginza. The new flagship store is the company largest in the world. The 12^th floors building glass and steel beam front, it is effectively used as a display for the store clothes.

A large number of the store employees are foreigners, to accommodate for the large number of foreigners customers visiting Ginza. Since the store opening large queues form in front of the store, to my surprise many Japanese people also queued to enter the store, even though there are uniqlo store everywhere, perhaps is due to the store novelty and exclusive models.

A casual low cost clothing store and Ginza may seem like a mismatch, the store is looking to enhance its brand to compete with competitors like H&M and Zara, whom already have stores at Ginza, and point up that low cost does not equal to low quality.

Apple Store in Ginza

A large number of Apple fans have flock to the apple stores in Japan to pay the final respects to Steve Jobs. The Ginza store, the first Apple store outside the US and a popular spots for young people shopping in Ginza, has become a gathering place for Apple fans.

Pedestrian Zone in Ginza

A large pedestrian zone is created every Sunday in Ginza, Chuo Street, to allow shoppers and visitors, to roam the area without worring about the normally busy traffic.




The weather is still hot and humid, but some see this as a business opportunity, a car company offered futsal clinic for kids, while the waiting parents check out the car, but no doubt about who got the longer queues, a beer store selling extra cold beer, with an ingenious display of the beer temperature.






Chairs and tables set in the street, performers displaying their skills, attention deprived pet owners showing off, all in a good Ginza Sunday.

Kabuki-za Japan premier Kabuki Theater

The Kabuki-za Theater in Ginza, Tokyo, is Japan foremost Kabuki theater and one of Tokyo most beautiful landmarks.

The theater opened in 1898 was destroyed in a fire on 1921, restored on 1923, and heavily damaged by the War raids, it was rebuilt a third time in 1951 to the current structure, an stunning white building now considered a tangible cultural property by the government. The company owning the building has deciding on closing and rebuilding this building in 2010, to construct an office and theatre complex on the current site (the government classification allows for remodeling and dismantling).

Kabuki is a Japanese traditional form of dance and theatre performed by an all male cast. Programs are divided in several shows divided in matinee and evening show, from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm. The whole day extravaganza may be too much for the un-initiated, there is a single show ticket.

The theater is offering a farewell performance until April next year, where you can appreciate the art in this beautiful building before is destroyed next year.

Ginza is one of the most luxurious shopping destinations in the world; the most famous brands have their flagship stores there.


One of the main streets is closed to traffic on weekends and becomes a popular shopper’s pedestrian zone.
